๐ The Shepherd and the Two Keepers
The Lordโs my Shepherd, kind and near,
Through quiet fields, He draws me clear,
Where restless thoughts are laid to rest,
And trembling hearts are gently blessed.
I wandered far, I lost my way,
Not all at onceโbut day by day,
Till something stirred within my soul,
A voice that would not lose control.
Truth rose up with steady sound,
A faithful guard that stood its ground,
It would not let my steps deceive,
Nor let my heart in darkness cleave.
And Mercy, soft yet strong and sure,
Stayed close behind to still endure,
When I deserved to fall and break,
It held me up for mercyโs sake.
Like watchful keepers on the field,
They drove me back, they would not yield,
When I would drift, or turn aside,
They stayed with me, my path to guide.
Through shadowed valleys, cold with fear,
I felt His presence drawing near,
No evil voice could make me stray,
For Truth and Mercy lined the way.
His rod was firm, His staff was kind,
Both worked together, well designed,
One kept me straight, one drew me near,
And both removed my doubt and fear.
A table spread though foes were round,
A peace no trouble could confound,
My cup overflowโs, my wounds are healed,
In Him my every need revealed.
And all my days, come joy or test,
These two shall follow, never rest,
Till safe at last, my soul shall be,
At home with Him eternally.
For where I walk, I am not aloneโThe Shepherd leads, and love brings me home.
