Elijah’s Dilemma
Donโt Throw in the Towel โ Donโt Give Up
When the fire has fallen and the battle seems won,
Yet darkness returns when the day is done,
When courage feels weak and strength runs dry,
And the question formsโโIs it time to die?โ
Remember Elijah beneath that tree,
Worn by the weight of his ministry,
Crying, โLord, Iโve done all I can do,โ
Yet heaven still watched, and heaven still knew.
For after the triumph, the trial came near,
A whisper of death, a message of fear,
And the prophet who once saw fire descend,
Now longed for his journey to come to an end.
But God in His mercy did not agree,
He saw what Elijah could not yet see,
โI have kept a people, faithful and true,
Seven thousand standโI am still with you.โ
So when you feel hidden, forgotten, alone,
When burdens feel heavier than youโve ever known,
When voices within say, โYouโre finished now,โ
And weariness settles upon your browโ
Donโt throw in the towel, donโt give up the fight,
Though shadows surround you, God is your light.
Though storms may be raging and winds may blow,
Thereโs a still small voice you yet must know.
Itโs not in the fire, nor quake, nor wind,
But quiet and gentle, deep within,
A whisper of hope, so soft yet clear:
โMy child, I am with youโIโm always near.โ
So rise from the place where sorrow has lain,
Godโs purpose for you still yet remains,
The grass is not greener, stay where youโre called,
For God is still working through it all.
Donโt throw in the towel, donโt give up today,
Though narrow the road and rough is the way.
For God shall be lifted, His name proclaimed,
Among all the nationsโHis glory declared.
Be still and know, though the battle seems long,
Your weakness in Him will yet become strong,
For the God who called you will carry you throughโ
So donโt give upโฆ Heโs not done with you.
