The People Who Only Took

There was once a small church in a quiet town. The people gathered every Sunday, sang the hymns, and listened to the Word—but something was missing.

They were always asking…

but seldom giving.

🏡 The Complaining Spirit

One day, a visiting pastor came to preach. He spoke plainly, yet with love. After the service, he sat with a few members who began to complain:

“The seats are too hard.”

“The singing is too slow.”

“The sermon was too long.”

The pastor listened quietly, then smiled and said:

“Do you know something? If we took some people and placed them in Buckingham Palace, they would still complain about the wallpaper.”

The room fell silent.

📖 The Mirror of Scripture

The pastor opened his Bible and read:

“All they do is grumble and complain…” — Jude 1:16

Then he turned again:

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” — Acts 20:35

And again:

“Freely ye have received, freely give.” — Matthew 10:8

He looked at them and said gently:

“You have received so much—grace, forgiveness, life, and hope.

But your hearts have grown used to taking… and forgotten how to give.”

🌿 A Changed Heart

Among those listening was a man named Thomas. He had been one of the loudest complainers.

That night, he went home uneasy.

He thought of all God had done for him—

how he had been forgiven, helped, and carried through hard times.

And yet… he had only found fault.

He bowed his head and prayed:

“Lord, forgive me. I have taken so much and given so little.”

✨ A New Beginning

The next Sunday, something was different.

Thomas arrived early—not to complain, but to help.

He greeted people at the door.

He encouraged the young.

He thanked the pastor.

And slowly, others began to notice.

The spirit in the church began to change—not because the building improved…

but because the hearts did.

💡 The Message

Some people will always find fault—

even in the finest place on earth.

But the child of God is called to something higher:

• Not just to receive—but to give
• Not just to criticise—but to build
• Not just to take—but to bless

A thankful heart sees beauty even in little things.

A complaining heart finds fault even in the best.

So let us not be those who only take—

but those who give, as Christ gave.

God is a good God — God knows, God loves, and God cares. 🌿
